NuvaRing is the trade name for a combined hormonal contraceptive vaginal ring that is available by prescription. It is a flexible plastic (ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer) ring that releases a low dose of a progestin and estrogen over three weeks.
NuvaRing works primarily by preventing ovulation. A secondary mechanism of action is inhibition of sperm penetration by changes in the cervical mucus.
NuvaRing is currently subject to extensive litigation due to the large number of side effects that it has caused patients using this drug. These side effects include but are not limited to:
- Pulmonary Embolism
- Heart Attack
